It usually is like you read so much and as a result of the reading you start to write your own piece”. But because she grew up in a family who reads a lot, Shane confesses that her voracious reading habits developed her love for writing, “It’s very difficult to find anyone who writes and does not read. “I’ve always liked to write, I started to write poems when I was 9 but because my family is not a writing family but a reading family so nobody really knew what to do about it”. ![]() Writing her first poem at the age of nine entitled “The Sea”, Shane knew how to express love and life through pen and paper even at a very young age. “My first poem was about a girl who talks to the sea about death and the sea would reply through its waves”. She finished her master’s degree in Creative Writing at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Shane Carreon is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Cebu. “Poems are light and heavy at the same time, it strives to put into words things that are otherwise unnamable”, says Charmaine Carreon recipient of the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature for her poetry the Yonic Lover, and a recipient of the Nick Joaquin Literary Award for her short fiction. ![]() ![]() ![]() Indeed, this fact has been well established in archaeological studies of other “barbarian” areas, in particular Burgundy, Ostrogothic Italy, and Kievan Rus‟. Their appearance at the same time as the creation of the Merovingian kingdom is not surprising. A community inventory uncovered Alemanni, Thuringian, Lombard, Ostrogoth, Danube-German, Anglo-Saxon and Visigoth elements. Despite their small numbers, these people certainly played an important military and social role, as evidenced by the burial of the nobility. The study of burials of the early Merovingian era in such sites as Arcy-Sainte-Restitue, Chassemy, Breny, Saint-Martin-de-Fontenay, and Vicq shows that the new groups who settled in northern Gaul in the fifth and early sixth centuries can be identified primarily by female costume elements of heterogeneous origin. ![]() ![]() Jase… well, he was like a superhero in my eyes, the only person who’d been capable of pulling my brother out of his depression. With all the humour and humanity that have made his novels so enduringly popular, this collection brings Pratchett out from behind the scenes of the Discworld to speak for himself - man and boy, bibliophile and computer geek, champion of hats, orangutans and Dignity in Dying. A Slip of the Keyboard brings together for the first time the finest examples of Pratchett's nonfiction writing, both serious and surreal: from musings on mushrooms to what it means to be a writer (and why banana daiquiris are so important) from memories of Granny Pratchett to speculation about Gandalf's love life, and passionate defences of the causes dear to him. Terry Pratchett has earned a place in the hearts of listeners the world over with his best-selling Discworld series - but in recent years he has become equally well-known and respected as an outspoken campaigner for causes including Alzheimer's research and animal rights. ![]() ![]() A collection of essays and other nonfiction from Terry Pratchett, spanning the whole of his writing career from his early years to the present day. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In it, we already see his liking for the atmospheric night-time scene (he has a fairly memorable one in which the co-protagonists of his story take a night-time stroll, discuss matters of life and death, and one of them, who has been experiencing premonitions of his death all evening, is murdered - in mistake for a prominent politician). The Disowned (1828) is apparently Bulwer's 3rd novel, well before he reached the height of his popularity. However, now and again, he goes off into a rabbit-hole of one of his own philosophical enthusiasms to the immediate detriment of the story at hand. Bulwer-Lytton is a guilty pleasure for me he's nowhere near as good a writer as some of his Victorian contemporaries, but I love his silly, pompous coinages based on Latin and Greek roots, and if you just go with the flow when he goes off on some lengthy philosophical or moral tangent, sometimes what he has to say can be quite interesting. ![]() ![]() All This Could be Yours is a timely, piercing exploration of what it means to be caught in the web of a toxic man who abused his power it shows how those webs can tangle a family for generations and what it takes to break free.
